The University of Nairobi also known as UoN is a collegiate research university based in Nairobi. It is one of the largest universities in Kenya. Although its history as an educational institution dates back to 1956, it did not become an independent university until 1970. In this year, the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: Makerere University in Uganda, the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, and the University of Nairobi in Kenya.

Just like most universities scattered across the content and mostly in Kenya, University of Nairobi has a student portal  which is also known as the Uon Student Portal. The Uon Student portal is an online student portal which allows students of University Of Nairobi to have access to all their school related stuff in the university like fees statements, exam results, library books borrowing, among others.

The uon student portal also give you the ability to track the status of your student ID, to check your results, timetable, register units. You can also book hostels and apply for graduation online via the portal.

How To Login To The Uon Student Portal

  1. Click Here to access the Uon Student Portal’s homepage or copy the link below and paste it in your browser https://smis.uonbi.ac.ke/
  2. If you are a Registered Online user, you will have to login using the registration Number and always remember the registration number must be in full. EG: …./2020
  3. Type your password after typing a correct registration number in the format given above. Use your National ID, Passport Number, or KCSE Index Number or Registered Mobile Number as your initial password. Point to Note; The Digits and Letters in the Registration Number. In C01/.. the digit 0 is (Zero) and NOT letter O and in I20/.. the Letter is I and NOT Digit 1 (One)
  4. Go ahead and click on the Login to finally login.

NB: Don’t forget to change your password after the first login

How to register on the UON student portal

If you are a fresher or a new student, you will need to register before you can access the UON student portal. To be able ot register, you will need to have your Application Reference Number.

  1. At the bottom of the registration page, enter your reference number as it appears on your letter of Offer
  2. After inputting the reference number, hit on “Get Allocated Registration Number” to get your allocated Student Registration Number.
  3. After that has been done, follow the onscreen instructions thereafter to complete the registration process.
  4. After the registration process, test your login details to see if its working and change your password afterwards.

How to Reset your UON Student Portal login Password

If by any means you have forgotten your password for the UON student portal, follow the steps below to reset your password.

  1. Click Here to access the Uon Student Portal’s homepage or copy the link below and paste it in your browser https://smis.uonbi.ac.ke/
  2. Click on Change password
  3. It will ask you to type your registration number, type it correctly in the preferred format.
  4. Then click on ‘Request Login Password”

How to register for a course unit

To be able to register for a course unit, as as a registered student and a registered UON Portal user, you will have to follow the following steps listed below:

  1. Login using student portal username and password.
  2. Select enroll for a course.
  3. Select category e.g Ph.D. (Doctorate students), Graduate (Postgraduate Students) or Undergraduate (Bachelors and Diplomas).
  4. Select an academic program.
  5. Register for course Units under your academic programs by selecting the icon next to the course title (a student must register for each course unit).

How to access course materials

To be able to access your course materials as a registered student and a registered UON Portal user, you will have to follow the following steps listed below:

  1. Login,
  2. Select a course,
  3. Select the document to access handouts,
  4. Select Assignment to check or upload assignments,
  5. Select a forum to have an online discussion on a given topic with classmate or group members,
  6. Select chat to have a real-time discussion on a given topic with other students online.
