Institutions of higher education in the US designated by the states to receive the benefits of the Morill Act 1862, 1890, 1994.

The Morrill Act financed educational institutions by granting federally controlled land to states to establish and endow “land grant” colleges.

The mission of these institutions is directed to the practical education of agriculture, science, military science and engineering in response to the industrial revolution and changes in social classes. This mission was in contrast to historical higher education practices focused on liberal abstract arts curricula.
